Hi,

New user of SkyDemon, from what I see so far I'm impressed.

However, I fly three Warrior 161s, and they're all very similar with (obviously) slight differences in W&B etc.

Was wondering if it was possible to either:

1. Allow me to 'Copy' an existing aircraft, and give it a new registration. That way I can set up 1 Warrior, then copy this to the other two.

2. Have some kind of aircraft 'database' (I know there is a forum for this, but was wondering if they templates could be integrated). That way I could just select a PA-28-161, give it a registration, then go about customising anything that's unique to the aircraft I fly?

Oh, and for '1' above, I realise that the aircraft definition is just an XML file, so I could copy it and edit the registration in a text editor. However, the average user probably isn't going to bother with this.

Cheers

Andy

While I remember, how about the ability to store these aircraft definitions (and maybe even routes and tracks) in the cloud, so that they can be synced between a user's multiple copies of SkyDemon (I have it installed on both my work PC and my laptop for example)?

I guess you could achieve the same thing through something like Dropbox. Can the locations of these be moved?

And then I guess to take it to its logical conclusion, why do I have to enter G-VICC, then have someone else at the Club have to enter it again?

I realise people may want to be able to change the aircraft settings, but for initial entry it would be nice to say 'G-VICC already entered by Andy Hawkins - Use these settings as template?'

Aircraft definitions are just files, and files can be copied by anybody who is computer literate enough to copy files. Upon next starting SkyDemon you'll then see two duplicate aircraft, and can modify one of them to your heart's content.

I agree that in a perfect world SkyDemon would sync all sorts of things to the cloud to be easily shared with friends. As it is, we expose aircraft settings as files so that people can share them if they like, and we have not yet devoted the resources to making SkyDemon run in the cloud. To be honest, you're the first person to ask.

I've already worked out my own scheme where I sync the SkyDemon folders to DropBox and share things that way. Would be 'nice' if it were automatic.

Sharing aircraft definitions globally might be worth considering though. Imagine how cool it'd be just to type in the aircraft reg and find that someone else has done all the donkey work entering stuff?

As you say though, hardly an essential feature.

How about making your Dropbox folder public and listing it here so that other people can benefit from your work, and contribute their own?

Happy landings,
